One hundred places are available on a first-come-first-serve basis for the "Sigint in Western Europe During the Cold War" conference which will take place in Amsterdam on 27 November 1999. More and more students of the Cold War are beginning to realize the important role intelligence communities played during the Cold War. In recent years, in particular, the importance of Signals Intelligence (SIGINT) has been stressed and especially the capabilities and possibilities of reading and deciphering diplomatic, military and commercial communications of other nations. This growing awareness of the importance of intelligence applies not only to the activities of the major services but also to those of the smaller nations like, for example, the Netherlands. For this reason, a couple of years ago the Netherlands Intelligence Studies Association (NISA) was established in which academics and (former and still active) members of the Netherlands intelligence community work together to promote research in the history of Dutch intelligence communities and to organize conferences such as this forthcoming one. 1-4 June, Vienna, Virginia, Defense Modeling & Simulation Industry Days. 8-9 June, Piney Point, Maryland, fourth annual symposium and exhibition on Situation Awareness in the Tactical Air Environment. 9 June, Paris, the official Fondation pour la Recherche Strategique is holding a seminar on "Rethinking War and Peace". 9 June, Paris, European Unmanned Vehicle Systems Association (EURO UVS) is organizing the "UAV CERTIF 1999" international workshop on unmanned vehicle certification on instigation of the French Ministry of Defence, in cooperation with NATO headquarters and in coordination with Eurocontrol (correction of entry INT, n. 98 8). 14 June, Fort Myer, Maryland, Association of Former Intelligence Officers (AFIO) luncheon with guest speaker Lawrence Eagleburger, former Secretary of State and former ambassador to Yugoslavia. 14-16 June, New York, fourth annual Space & Satellite Finance conference. 14-18 June, Munich, Germany, Industrial Lasers-EnviroSense. 15 June, application deadline for Investigator-Initiated Solicitations at the US National Institute of Justice (NIJ), Washington. 16 June, Pasadena, California, "Putting Together the Pieces.
