Taliban Surrender Kandahar
Osama bin Laden and Mullah Omar Elude US Crusaders
December 7, 2001
On December 7, 2001 the Taliban began surrendering Kandahar, their final
bastion and birthplace, but the USA's two most-wanted men in Afghanistan
appeared to have vanished. Anti-Taliban forces said they also seized bin Laden's
main mountain hideout in the Tora Bora region, but found no trace of him and
suspect he may have slipped into Pakistan.Mullah Omar, the spiritual leader of the Taliban, who was promised amnesty by US
ally Hamid Karzai, also disappeared after the US refused to honor Karzai's pledge.
