Irish Republican Socialists Turn Out for Pan-African Centennial Via NY Transfer News * All the News That Doesn't Fit Irish Republican Socialists Turn Out for Pan-African Centennial This year marks 100 years since the first Pan-African Conference was held. To mark this important event, the Irish Republican Socialist Party will be participating in African Liberation Day celebrations in both Europe and North America. The African Liberation Day participation comes at the invitation of the All-African People's Revolutionary Party, long a close solidarity alliance of the IRSP. In North America, members of the IRSP will be speaking at African Liberation Day events in Sacramento, California and Dallas, Texas on the Saturday, May 27th. In Sacramento, Mary McIlroy will represent the party, while in Dallas, Eric Hayes-Patkowski will be the IRSP's representative. Also on May 27th, the IRSP's North American Coordinator and leader of the Irish Republican Socialist Committees of North America, Peter Urban will speak at to African Liberation Day events in Washington, DC. Mr. Urban is a member of the IRSP's International Department. The Washington, DC African Liberation Day 2000 events will begin with an International Symposium at Howard University Blackburn Center (Forum Room, 1st floor, rear) at which Peter Urban will be a participant on one of three panels taking place between 10 am and 2 pm. Later that day, Mr. Urban will participate in, and speak at, an African Liberation Day march which begins at 2:15 pm in front of Blackburn Center and will march through the African community to Malcolm X Park, for a rally at 3:00 pm. Malcolm X Park is located at 16th & Euclid Street NW. The rally will continue until 6:30 pm. The IRSP's North American Coordinator has said he intends to spend two three additional days in Washington, DC, to meet with supporters there and participate in several meetings with representatives of other Irish activist and anti-imperialist organisations. On Sunday, May 28th, IRSP Ard Comhairle member and head of the IRSP's International Department, Terry h Earcain, will speak at an African Liberation Day Conference taking place between 2 and 6 pm at the Bridge park complex , Harrow Rd Stonebridge. He will then deliver a solidarity statement from the IRSP again the next day, Monday, May 29th at an ALD rally taking place between 2 and 7 pm at the same location. Messages of solidarity will also be provided by the IRSP to be read out at ALD 2000 events in Atlanta, GA; St Louis, MO; Los Angeles, CA; St Croix, USVI; Toronto, Canada; Bissau, Guinea-Bissau; Freetown, Sierra Leone; and Conakry, Guinea.
