A solemn meeting was held at the Ba Dinh Hall in Hanoi on April 29. Can Tho province organised a meeting and parade to cerebrate its 25th liberation day on April 29. The Hanoi Municipal Party Committee, the People's Committee, the People's Council and the Fatherland Front held a meeting of soldiers who fought in the Anti-US Resistance War on April 27. Ms Truong My Hoa, deputy chairwoman of the National Assembly; lieutenant general Le Hai, deputy director of the Army Political General Department; Mr Le Quang Vinh, director of the Governmental Religious Committee; Mr Vu Oanh, former Politburo member, and representatives from the Ministry of Labour, War Invalids and Social Affairs and 621 war veterans in Hanoi attended the meeting. The war veterans expressed their sincere thanks to the city's Party organisations and authorities for their great attention. They said they promised to develop further the revolutionary tradition of Uncle Ho's soldiers, making contributions to building Hanoi into a prosperous and civilised capital. Also on April 27, the Municipal Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Youth Union in Ho Chi Minh City held a traditional meeting for former cadres of the Union. Hundreds of representatives, who are former members of the Union from the Anti-US Resistance War, and young people participated in the meeting. The participants reviewed the difficult but heroic struggle of the young people during the war. Developing further the revolutionary tradition, 240 young people of the city today are trying their best in studying and exerting themselves to make contributions to the process of industrialisation and modernisation. On the same day, a meeting of revolutionary veterans with the participation of 170 representatives was held in Thua Thien-Hue by the province's Association of Patriotic Prisoners. On April 28, Mr Pham The Duyet, permanent standing member of the Politburo and chairman of the Presidium of the Fatherland Central Committee cordially met a delegation of generations from the 673 Liberation Anti-aircraft Division (now the 673 Anti-aircraft Brigade, the Army Corps II), the first anti-aircraft division of the Liberation Army of Southern Vietnam established at the Tri Thien battlefield on March 29, 1973. Mr Duyet spoke highly of the great contributions by officers and men of the division in protecting the Tri Thien liberated area. The division shot down many enemy fighters, participating in liberating Hue, Da Nang, Phan Rang, Phan Thiet and in the historical Ho Chi Minh campaign. The same day, in Bay Bau hamlet, Tan Lap village, Tan Bien district, Tay Ninh province, the Public Security Ministry held a 'Return to Root' meeting. Mr Le Minh Huong, politburo member and public security minister; local leaders, revolutionary cadres of the public security sector and representatives of the sector from provinces from Quang Tri to Ca Mau participated in the meeting. Earlier, leaders of the ministry and Tay Ninh province burned incense to commemorate the heroic martyrs and held an exhumation ceremony for 11 recently-found remains of martyrs from the R Security Committee and brought them to the Heroes Cemetery. A get-together of former Con Dao political prisoners in Hanoi was held on April 28 to mark the 25th Con Dao Liberation Day. Military Region 1 and Military Region 2 held solemn meetings to celebrate the 25th south liberation day and national unification. A solemn meeting was also be held at Nhan Dan Newspaper to mark the south liberation day, April 30, and the international labour day, May 1. Participants to the meeting observed a minute's silence in memory of the people and soldiers including Nhan Dan journalists who died for national independence and freedom. The Party Committee, People's Council, People's Committee and Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Quang Tri province paid a floral tribute to heroic martyrs at Truong Son and Road 9 National Cemeteries on April 28. The same day, Quang Tri held a ceremony to bestow posthumously Heroic Vietnamese Mother titles for 54 women whose husbands and sons died in the two struggles. The southern province of Dong Nai held a meeting to celebrate its 25th liberation day and 25th south liberation day and national unification. After the meeting there were demonstrations and parades by provincial armed forces and people.
