Despite current President Francisco Flores' denial of any knowledge of the infamous terrorist's presence in the country, Calderón admitted in an interview with Diario de Hoy that information that had been received from Cuba had been analyzed and properly filed. He said that the Salvadoran Attorney General's investigation into the matter had not yet been completed. Although he described the information provided by Cuba as "brief," it was impossible for him to deny that he received it and that it was later passed on to the State Intelligence Agency (OIE). Calderón who was president from 1994 to 1999, explained that he received the information in April 1999 during the Association of Caribbean States Summit held in the Dominican Republic. He stated that he had spoken about the matter with his Cuban counterpart, Fidel Castro, at various Ibero-American Summits and also that he had met with a representative from the island to discuss the matter further.
