Sunday February 6, 2000 The Resistance has begun! "Tell all the people that we are defending their children's education," this was the cry of one of the students detained at the time that the "Federal Preventive Police" (a politico-military police) forced him onto one of the buses that to the striking students to the detention centers of the Prosecutor General of the Republic (PGR). And this cry began to resonate all over Mexico city, where at this moment people are holding a variety of demonstrations and meetings. Two thousand people are now headed up Insurgentes Avenue toward the Monument of the Revolution (where part of the PGR's police force can be found). Another group of people has already gathered at the monument itself; other are gathering at the Prosecutor Generals dentention center located in Azcopolzalco, also there are thousands of people and groups that are reorganizing themselves at Coyoacan plaza-just outside of the nothern detention center and the juvenile detention center...among other places. In all of these gatherings the following proposal is being promoted to bring together all honest Mexicans that want to fight in defense of the UNAM; The proposal is: Have everyone come together at the "Angel of Independence" so as to form a popular assembly that will begin at 5 p.m. At this assembly we will announce our plan for actions of resistance, which include calling the IPN (Instituto Politecnico), the high schools, all the universities around the country, and all other schools, to discuss and realize a national work stoppage. We call on all brothers and sisters in the interior of the republic to hold gathering in their Zocalos and town squares in order to come to an agreement as to how they are going to give support to the heroic university struggle. We will continue to inform. Testimony of an error-In Message #1--We mistakenly wrote January 6th, of course the date is Sunday February 6th. We ask your forgiveness but we are working under adverse conditions...regardless we will continue to resist because although they can take away our paths when will they be able to take away our desire for liberty and justice.
