Another New Jane Via NY Transfer News * All the News That Doesn't Fit ANOTHER NEW JANE FONDA Jane Fonda must have latched on to a new man. Maybe it's Jesus. Maybe it's just another cracker fundie. She has never had any identify aside from whatever mate she was currently attached to. When she married Vadim, she became Barbarella. With Hayden, she was Hanoi Jane. Not long after, when Tom Hayden went mainstream, she became Jerusalem Jane, stumping for hubby on the election trail in Israel -- despite all their warcrimes against Lebanon. Then we all suffered through Jane's Turnet TV period, when she was Mrs. Atlanta Brave and didn't seem to think there was anything offensive about anti-native racism. She's pathetic. Like a chicken who wakes to a new world every morning, each time she finds a new man and a new personality, she believes she's found the Authentic Jane. And she can never keep the news to herself. We've seen more new Janes than we saw new Nixons. Jane Fonda is living proof of the need for radical feminism, and a good example of why Hollywood is not a healthy place to grow up. Maybe some of those airport fans will do us all a favor some day and literally smother her with love. Hanoi Jane performed a valuable service, regardless of her celluloid personality. No matter how many times she transforms herself, at least her anti-Vietnam war actions were useful to the cause. Now she's repenting, and praying and "going to her grave" regretting what she did to the Amerikkkan murderers in Vietnam. Let her repent, let her pray, let her go to her grave anyway she wants, if only she will do it silently. -- NY Transfer. GUARDIAN (London) Thursday June 22, 2000 Fonda sorry for Hanoi Jane image by Michael Ellison in New York The reinvention of Jane Fonda as an all-American conformist gathered pace yesterday with the abandonment of one of her longest-cherished positions, support for the Viet Cong during the Vietnam war. "I will go to my grave regretting the photograph of me in an anti-aircraft carrier, which looks like I was trying to shoot at American planes," said the 62-year-old Oscar-winning actress, referring to a 1972 picture of her with North Vietnamese soldiers which earned her the soubriquet of Hanoi Jane. "It hurt so many soldiers. It galvanised such hostility. It was the most horrible thing I could possibly have done. It was just thoughtless." Fonda has rethought large areas of her life recently, splitting up with her husband, the CNN cable news founder Ted Turner, and embracing Christianity. "You have to be able to say 'I was wrong'. You have to be able to accept responsibility for your mistakes and learn from them," she said in an interview with the chat show personality Oprah Winfrey in O magazine. Fonda said that at the time of the Hanoi picture she was living a "fun but rather empty life" in France with her first husband, the late film director Roger Vadim. Ed Croucher, executive director of the Vietnam Veterans of America, was unimpressed by her change of heart. "There are many of us who will never forgive her for what she did," he said. "Because of her, prisoners were tortured or denied basic necessities. "She could start by helping the groups she harmed the most, such as surviving prisoners of war or the families of those who died in captivity." Fonda said of her conversion to Christianity: "It's been difficult. People come up to me in airports and throw their arms around me." The former apostle of the 1980s fitness video-tape industry also said that she was bulimic up to the age of 36. "I think I lived on apple peels and the crust of bread because if I went any further into the food there'd be no stopping. "It has something to do with living a lie. Not being authentic. Faking it. It's like becoming a woman and then rejecting it. Like alcoholism, it's a disease of denial." SEE JANE RUN Look, Jane, look! Look in the mirror! IT'S A REAL WOMAN! Run, jane, Run! Run away from your reflection! Search, Jane, Search. Search for a new identity! See Jane run. Look, Jane, Look! Look for a new man, and become a New Jane. ================================================================= NY Transfer News Collective * A Service of Blythe Systems Since 1985 - Information for the Rest of Us 339 Lafayette St., New York, NY 10012 http://www.blythe.org e-mail: nyt@blythe.org ================================================================= nytfem-06.25.00-00:40:56-30520
