2 Years Later, "Good Friday Agreement" Testament to Failure: IRSP Via NY Transfer News * All the News That Doesn't Fit IRISH REPUBLICAN SOCIALIST PARTY * FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 10 April 2000 "Good Friday" Agreement's 2nd anniversary: "A testament to failure" - IRSP Following April's IRSP Ard Comhairle meeting, the Party has issued a damning indictment of the politics of the Good Friday Agreement on its second anniversary. Ard Comhairle representative Jimmy Bradley following the meeting in Dublin said: "The failure of the Good Friday Agreement two years on is a damning indictment of all those involved in its construction, if the situation wasn't so serious, the irony of those who negotiated the GFA bringing it crashing down will not be lost on those who are committed to a non sectarian society and a durable peace. The consistency of those politicians warning of a return to conflict is tedious, they are engaged in the politics of fear, threat and blame. Lets be clear, it is those same self serving politicians and political parties that have failed, not the ordinary people. The working class communities have for far too long taken the blame for the failure of the Good Friday Agreement, the time has long since past that these politicians stand up and take responsibility for their own actions. The IRSP reject the politics of fear, threat and blame, we reject the GFA as it supports and promotes sectarian divisions, condemning another generation of young Irish people to live in a segregated society. Is this really the future that we envisage in Ireland?" In conclusion, the IRSP representative said: "The lack of vision displayed by all those involved in the GFA is frightening, the threat of a return to conflict so easily used as a justification when there is a crisis in the 'Agreement' is a bigger threat to the peace than decommissioning or any other contrived crisis. There is an alternative to a return to conflict, the IRSP's Charter for non aggression offers a genuine commitment to conflict resolution, it could lead to the breakdown of sectarian divisions leading to the creation of the trust necessary to build a new equal future for all, especially the working class community that has borne the brunt of the past thirty years of conflict."
