Ireland-Derry IRSP on Incident at Buncrana Sat, 8 Apr 2000 06:36:24 -0400 Via NY Transfer News * All the News That Doesn't Fit source: irsp @ netwiz.net April 8, 2000 The following statement was issued by Derry IRSP on Wednesday 5th April. It followed a serious disturbance in Buncrana, a town fifteen miles from Derry which is across the border in Donegal. The Derry Journal carried the statement and in their story they contacted both the RUC and Gardai who both refused to deny the allegations. "The IRSP have been approached by a person who claims that the disturbance in Buncrana two weeks ago was caused by RUC members who were attending a stag party. "In order to validate this claim we call on both the Gardai and RUC to make statements clarifying their members roles in this rampage. "Our information suggests that two RUC men actually fled across the border while still handcuffed. If such a disturbance was caused by a local gang or a gang from Derry city then we have no doubt that those involved would have been dragged before the Donegal courts and severely punished. If tgis turns out to be the case then this poses further and more serious questions such as the fair application of the law. Does the law apply only to persons who are not membes of the security forces, north or south? How did a large number of RUC personnel end up in Donegal in the first place? "The Gardai and RUC, by their silence will no doubt only add fuel to the rumours.
