NorthWest Airlines Agrees to Clean Up Anti-Arab Racism Fri, 4 Feb 2000 02:02:53 -0500 Via NY Transfer News * All the News That Doesn't Fit source - ADC Update: Jan 27, 2000 Positive Meeting between ADC and Northwest Airlines Produces Agreements Today at ADC's national office in Washington, DC, officials of ADC and Northwest Airlines came to a series of agreements following numerous complaints about the airline. ADC and Northwest agreed to the following: - That, due to the large number of complaints about airport profiling of Arabs and Arab-Americans while flying on Northwest, ADC will be involved in sensitivity training for current and new Northwest staff. The training sessions will aim at explaining Arabic culture and mores, as well as Arab-American concerns and sensitivities, to Northwest staff in order to reduce the number of incidents of unwarranted or abusive profiling of Arabs and Arab-Americans by Northwest. - That Northwest will address the large number of complaints about profiling of Arabs and Arab-Americans by KLM. the Dutch airline which is Northwest's international partner and which flies a large number of connection from the United States to various Middle Eastern and other international destinations. - That a senior official of Northwest will be designated as the point-person for answering all complaints from the Arab-American community about profiling. - That ADC and Northwest will work together to address concerns ADC has raised about Northwest's hiring policies. The meeting in Washington was a follow-up to an earlier meeting in Detroit between local ADC representatives and Northwest officials.
