Gorby Advises USA to Get the Hell Out of Afghanistan Via NY Transfer News * All the News That Doesn't Fit [Gorby should know ... but if they ignore him, the US Empire may disintegrate the same way the USSR did.] TEHRAN TIMES - October 30, 2001 Gorbachev Advises Bush to Withdraw From Afghanistan TEHRAN--Mikhail Gorbachev, the last president of the former Soviet Union, has advised U.S. President, George W. Bush, to withdraw from Afghanistan as soon as possible. In an interview with the Spanish newspaper El Mundo, the former leader said that the U.S. is right in attempting to combat terrorism. However, he believed that imposing a solution for the Afghan political crisis would be wrong, and he hoped that the United States wasn't planning on doing that. Gorbachev, who is attending a conference on democracy in Madrid, agreed that issues and agendas are sometimes confused and they might get even worse, but he added that military action was not the way to solve the problems. He said that the strikes in Afghanistan must end soon. He suggested that a solution should be sought through diplomacy and political strategies, saying: "In light of my experience in Afghanistan, I would advise the U.S. to leave the country as soon as possible." The Bush Administration should keep in mind that their war is against terrorism and not Afghan civilians, said the former Soviet leader. He added that a war in Afghanistan was madness, and that it could continue for decades. He believed that the new Afghan government should represent all the country's ethnic groups. Gorbachev spoke of the 'balance of power' that was disturbed following the 1991 collapse of the Soviet Union. He said that the world currently lacks equilibrium, and this has resulted in the total domination of the powerful over the weak. He suggested that all democratic countries should take part in the new world order, and that all the ethnic distinctions and cultural variety in the world should be accepted. http://www.tehrantimes.com/Description.asp?Da=10/30/01&Cat=4&Num=012 ================================================================= NY Transfer News Collective * A Service of Blythe Systems Since 1985 - Information for the Rest of Us 339 Lafayette St., New York, NY 10012 http://www.blythe.org e-mail: nyt@blythe.org ================================================================= nyteeu-10.30.01-21:40:09-14452
