IRSP: JOB APPLICANTS ASKED TO SCAB ON DERRY POSTAL WORKERS Via NY Transfer News * All the News That Doesn't Fit Jan 23, 2001 JOB APPLICANTS ASKED TO SCAB ON DERRY POSTAL WORKERS The Irish Republican Socialist Party have been approached by a member of the public who is concerned that management at the local sorting office tried to dupe her into becoming a SCAB worker during the current dispute between workers and the management at the sorting office. This person recently applied for a part-time position at the sorting office and had been given an interview for later this week. During the weekend though, a member of the management called to her residence and asked if she could start work immediately. When she enquired as to why the normal interview and aptitude tests were not going ahead she was told that the workers were in dispute with management and were refusing to do overtime. She was told that workers were needed immediately. She point blank refused the offer of scab work. We congratulate this person for having the presence of mind to reject this offer of scab work. She would've been happy to do the job under normal circumstances but not at the expense of other workers' rights. The IRSP wish to inform the workers and other job applicants that Royal Mail management are stooping to this level in order to undermine the workers at the sorting office. We urge anyone approached under similar circumstances to refuse this anti worker offer and inform the IRSP or members of the workforce at the sorting office. The IRSP are fully behind the workers and we urge management to get this problem sorted out as soon as possible.
