Taliban says Australian contribution to Afghan conflict, unnecessary 

Meanwhile, the Taliban say Australia's contribution of troops to the
conflict in Afghanistan is unnecessary.

South Asia correspondant Jonathan Harley reports: 

"The Taliban's ambassador to Pakistan, Abdul Salem Zayef, when asked
to respond to the departure of Australia's troops to assist with U-S
led strikes on Afghanistan, wryly derided the military contribution:
"I think that America is the superpower. America is enough for
Afghanistan, there is no need for Australia to come." The
Ambassador's regular afternoon press conferences are at times a
bizarre mix of fierce rhetoric and light-hearted quips, but it's an
important platform for the Taliban, especially for the regime to
offer its account of casualties. Abdul Salem Zayef says a-thousand
civilians have been killed over the last fortnight thou it's not
possible to verify the claim. (Radio Australia)
