National Review Drops White-Trash Racist Columnist Via NY Transfer News * All the News That Doesn't Fit Tuesday October 02 07:27 PM EDT (via yahoo) National Review Drops Ann Coulter NEW YORK (AP) - The National Review has dropped the column of conservative pundit Ann Coulter in a dispute over remarks she made after the terrorist attacks. "We should invade their countries, kill their leaders and convert them to Christianity," Coulter said in a column which appeared in The National Review Online. The Web site then refused to run two of her follow-up pieces, including one on airport security in which she referred to checking the passports of "suspicious-looking swarthy males." National Review Online editor Jonah Goldberg said Tuesday that after the decision was made to pass on those two pieces, Coulter appeared on television and criticized the publication for censorship. "We dropped Ann Coulter because she had an immature reaction to the fact that we decided not to run two of her pieces," Goldberg said. He said he had also received numerous complaints from readers. Coulter told the Washington Post, which first reported the story, "If National Review has no spine they are not my allies." She did not return a phone call from The Associated Press seeking comment. Coulter's column is distributed by Universal Press Syndicates, which said Tuesday that it would continue to represent her. "While Ann Coulter's columns on the September 11 attack may have offended some readers, she does have a right to express her opinion," a statement from Universal said. "Readers may then choose to agree or disagree with that opinion, which we believe is the essential purpose of having a newspaper op-ed page." Coulter is a frequent commentator on cable news shows and rose to prominence during the Clinton impeachment scandal. ================================================================= NY Transfer News Collective * A Service of Blythe Systems Since 1985 - Information for the Rest of Us 339 Lafayette St., New York, NY 10012 http://www.blythe.org e-mail: nyt@blythe.org ================================================================= nytrc-10.02.01-23:11:58-5807
