Cuban Intellectuals & Artists Write to Fox Via NY Transfer News * All the News That Doesn't Fit source - "Luis A. Martin" La Jornada, Thursday - April 18, 2002 Letter from Cuban intellectuals and artists to Fox Madam Director: We request publication of this letter addressed to Mr. Vicente Fox, President of the United States of Mexico. Mr. President: Although the position that the Mexican government will adopt before the United Nations Commission of Human Rights at Geneva has already been made public, we have decided to contact you regarding this topic. We would like for you to be aware that the cultural environment of today's Cuba is characterized by total freedom and creativity and that it has nothing to do with the distorted image that some information media have been attempting to promote. The support and nurturing that the various forms of artistic expression receive among us, and those who cultivate them, are an example of adherance to human rights and unlimited cultural dissemination. The repeated instances to interfere in the internal affairs of Cuba by said Commission and those who lend themselves to those manipulations are part of an organized attack against the sovereignty and self determination of our country. Cordially, Alicia Alonso, Rosita Fornés, Cintio Vitier, Eusebio Leal, Roberto Fernández Retamar, Fernando Alonso, Abel Prieto, Carlos Martí Brenes, Alfredo Guevara, Graziella Pogolotti, Lisandro Otero, Fernando Pérez, Julio García Espinosa, Silvio Rodríguez, Juan Carlos Tabío, Pablo Armando Fernández, Antón Arrufat, Miguel Barnet, César López, Ambrosio Fornet, Chucho Valdés, Nelson Domínguez, Harold Gramatges, José Villa, Enrique Núez Rodríguez, Francisco López Sacha, Choco, Senel Paz, Rebeca Chávez, Celina González, Eduardo Heras León, Jorge Luis Prats, César Portillo de la Luz, Fina García Marruz, Carilda Oliver Labra, Alfredo Sosa Bravo, Amaury Pérez, Leo Brouwer, Flora Fong, Nara Araujo, Frank Fernández, José Loyola, Carlos Varela, Isaac Delgado, Guido López Gavilán, Víctor Casaus, Gladys Goizueta, Roberto Chile and Rudy Mora Courtesy of Peter Gellert ================================================================= NY Transfer News Collective * A Service of Blythe Systems Since 1985 - Information for the Rest of Us 339 Lafayette St., New York, NY 10012 http://www.blythe.org e-mail: nyt@blythe.org ================================================================= nytcari-04.19.02-00:51:03-6323
