The death-fast began at the historic Hindu Perumal Kovil at Vannarpannai in Jaffna town. The fast-to-death was started as a last resort after two earlier token fasts failed to bring positive results. LTTE ASSAULTS ARMY-POLICE POSITIONS LTTE forces intercepted a Sri Lankan army unit at Kaithiday-Nunavil area in Thenmaradchy district in occupied Jaffna killing 2 soldiers and injuring 3 more. The assault was launched at 8.30 PM on Tuesday. There was no casualty to the LTTE. Yesterday LTTE units attacked a Sri Lankan road check-point manned by para-military police at Central camp in Amparai killing more than 6 military police. Some arms and ammunitions including T56 rifles were captured. The LTTE suffered no casualties. Meanwhile in occupied Jaffna the LTTE forces attacked an army road-block at Chankathanai (Chavakachcheri) killing 2 soldiers. There were no LTTE casualties. In Trincomalee LTTE forces launched an assault on a Sri Lankan road-checkpoint at Palathady in Thoppur. More than 4 para-military police were killed and some arms and ammunition were captured. LTTE suffered no casualties. On Friday 7 LTTE fighters died in an unexpected confrontation with the Sri Lankan army at Kanakarayankulam (Vanni). GOVERNMENT NEGLECTS TO REPAIR JAFFNA HOSPITAL DAMAGED BY ARMY The Sri Lankan government has supplied only a tiny fraction of the money needed to repair the Jaffna hospital that was bombed by the armed forces say the hospital authorities. The military caused 70 Million rupees worth of damages to the hospital by bombarding it during its operation to capture Jaffna in 1995.
