October 1997 LTTE PRESS RELEASE NEWS FROM TAMIL EELAM LTTE MOUNTS SEARCH AND DESTROY OPERATIONS IN VANNI JUNGLES Sri Lankan army stragglers and deserters from the last few day's fighting are being systematically hunted down in the jungles by LTTE forces. Many occupying Sinhalese armed personnel earlier lost their nerve and fled into the jungles. They are now being pursued in LTTE search and destroy operations. Over the last 48 hours, LTTE forces have been combing day and night the jungles bordering Karappkuththi, Vignanakulam and Sinna Adampan. WOMEN'S DAY IN TAMIL EELAM 2nd Lt. Malathi has a special place in the hearts and minds of Tamil Eelam's people. She was the first woman soldier to fall in the field of battle ten years ago. As the first woman martyr, Lt. Malathi is remembered on the 10th day of October every year, the day of her death. She fought heroically against Indian occupation and gave her life for the freedom of the Tamil nation, a sacrifice for which the entire Tamil world is grateful. Her noble commitment is a tribute to the struggles of women all over the world, and her martyrdom is fittingly celebrated as Women's Day in Tamil Eelam. LTTE OFFICIAL PUBLICATIONS OUT TOMORROW LTTE's official organ, Viduthalai Puligal, is released tomorrow. October's issue bears articles analysing the fraudulent devolution package designed for the dismemberment of Tamil Eelam. The magazine will also contain news and views about the ongoing Jaya Sikurui military operation. It will be sold in the usual outlets. Meanwhile, Velicham, the official organ of the arts and culture division of the LTTE, is also out tomorrow. It contains prolific articles, short stories, verses and analytical works. It is the September issue. WOMEN'S SAVING SCHEME INTRODUCED IN TAMIL EELAM'S BANKS A new savings scheme especially for women is operative from today in Tamil Eelam. The Tamil Eelam Bank is offering special saving incentives and several important benefits to women depositors. Kfir WARPLANES BOMB PASSENGER VAN A Tamil man was killed after Sri Lankan Kfir warplanes bombed Mankulam and Kanakarayankulam residential areas for 7 hours non-stop last Monday. A passenger van travelling on the main road was chased and bombed by these planes at 1:30 PM and the Tamil man on board was torn to pieces. His identity has not yet been established. Three others (displaced persons) were critically injured in the incident and are now in Mallavi hospital. Their names are - A. Arulamriampillai (62) Chelliah Paramalingam (32) and Nagarasa Yokaraseswaran (32).
