SLA suffers heavy casualties

[TamilNet, October 11, 1997]

Over 500 Sri Lankan soldiers have died in bitter fighting in the Vanni in
the past 5 days, the LTTE said today. The Liberation Tigers also say that 3
towns occupied by the SLA have been retaken. A huge quantity of arms and
ammunition and several vehicles have been captured.



Ranil's India visit worries PA

The leader of the UNP Mr.Ranil Wickremesinghe will make anofficial visit
to India on Oct.13. He is scheduled to meet with the Indian Prime minister
Inder Kumar Gujral and top officials of India's foreign ministry during the
visit.
