Tenth anniversary of Thileepan's death
[TamilNet, September 25, 1997]

Today is the 10th anniversary of the death of Thileepan, one of Tamil
people's most popular national heroes. He held the rank of Lt. Colonel
in the LTTE and earned a reputation as a courageous fighter, but it is
for his peaceful protest for the rights of the Tamil people that he is
most remembered. When Thileepan died, the Tamil public overwhelmingly
united behind the LTTE. Even today, Thileepan's death is marked across
the Tamil homelands and the expatriate Tamil communities.
