Denver Welcomes Zapatista Marchers Via NY Transfer News Collective * All the News that Doesn't Fit Source: "Kerry Appel" Thu, 11 Sep 1997 10:40:40 -0600 The Zapatista Army of National Liberation The Zapatista Front of National Liberation The civil population of Mexico The international civil society The Mexican and international press The Mexican government The United States government 11th of September, 1997 The press and the governments want to say that support is dwindling among Mexican and international society for the demands of the indigenous population of Mexico as represented by the demands that the 1,111 Zapatistas and their indigenous and non-indigenous allies carry with them now to Mexico City. This would be convenient for the press and the governments of both Mexico and the United States if it were true. The press and the governments, as the voice and the police respectively for the transnational corporations who want the indigenous lands and resources, wait for the indigenous and their supporters to disappear. This is exactly their plan. But their plan is based upon lies and false hope and it is failing. Support for the Zapatistas and indigenous rights is NOT dwindling. We will have a rally in Denver tomorrow, at 4:30pm on the 12th of September, at the Mexican Consulate, 48 Steele St. There we will show that the support for the Zapatistas is NOT dwindling in Denver. The support for indigenous rights and culture is growing in Denver. At the consulate we will: WELCOME THE ZAPATISTAS AND THEIR ALLIES TO MEXICO. D.F., STAND UP FOR JUSTICE , LIBERTY AND DEMOCRACY FOR ALL PEOPLES, WITH THE 1,111 ZAPATISTAS FROM 1,111 INDIGENOUS COMMUNITIES IN REBELLION, DEMAND THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE SAN ANDRES INITIATIVE FOR INDIGENOUS RIGHTS AND CULTURE, DEMAND AN END TO US ARMS SALES AND DONATIONS TO MEXICO, DEMAND AND END TO THE MILITARIZATION OF THE INDIGENOUS COMMUNITIES OF CHIAPAS AND OTHER STATES IN MEXICO AND SAY NO TO THE US "FAST TRACK" OF NAFTA TO OTHER COUNTRIES IN THE AMERICAS. Some of the groups that will be present include: The New Alliance for Indigenous Liberation Support (NAILS) The Human Bean Company The Tierra Amarilla Youth Brigade The Mexican National Liberation Movement (MNLN) The Colorado Progressive Coalition The American Friends Service Committee (AFSC) The Peace and Justice Task Force, United Church of Christ The Chiapas Coalition Amnesty International (AI) The Denver Justice and Peace Committee (DJPC) ================================================================= NY Transfer News Collective * A Service of Blythe Systems Since 1985 - Information for the Rest of Us 339 Lafayette St., New York, NY 10012 http://www.blythe.org e-mail: nyt@blythe.org ================================================================= nytcamer-09.12.97-02:04:43-21307
