(c) The Associated Press MEXICO CITY (AP) - A French journalist has been expelled from Mexico after visiting a village controlled by Zapatista rebels, Mexican newspapers reported Sunday. Guillemette Marie Faure, a contributor to Radio France International, crossed the Guatemalan border Saturday after officials accused her of violating terms of her tourist visa, three daily newspapers reported. Faure said immigration officials gave her 48 hours to leave the country after visiting La Realidad, a village controlled by the Zapatista National Liberation Front. ``They wanted to know how many foreigners there were in the (rebel) camps and also about the Zapatistas. I only said I was interested in visiting La Realidad, like any foreigner,'' she was quoted as saying. In the past year, Mexican immigration officials have expelled several foreigners from the southern state of Chiapas, where the rebels are active. ================================================================= NY Transfer News Collective * A Service of Blythe Systems Since 1985 - Information for the Rest of Us 339 Lafayette St., New York, NY 10012 http://www.blythe.org e-mail: nyt@blythe.org ================================================================= nytcamer-11.06.97-16:58:53-12679
