How Many of Us Will It Take
to Shut Down the U.S. Army
School of the Americas? 

November 16 marks the 8th anniversary of the assassination of six
Jesuit priests and their two women co-workers in El Salvador. 19 of
the 26 Salvadoran army officers cited by the U.N. Truth Commission for
these murders were trained at U.S. taxpayer expense at the U.S. Army
School of the Americas (SOA) at Ft. Benning, GA

This massacre is but one horrifying example of the "work" of SOA
graduates. Consistently, Latin American nations with the worst human
rights records send the most soldiers to the SOA. At SOA they hone
combat skills, counterinsurgency techniques, commando tactics, and ---
as recently revealed --- torture techniques. These "skills" are turned
against their own people -- especially peasants, religious workers,
labor organizers, and others working for the rights of the poor.

How many assassinations, rapes, tortures, and "disappearances" will it
take? How many of  us will it take at Ft. Benning and in the halls of
Congress before our elected officials finally close the doors on this
"School of Assassins?" 

We need 1,000 PEOPLE to each deliver 1,000 SIGNATURES to the School of
the Americas November 16,1997.

Vigil and Civil Disobedience Action to CLOSE the U.S. Army School of
the Americas November 13-16, 1997 Main Gate * Ft. Benning * Columbus
Georgia 10 AM to 5 PM daily

We ask you to bring 1,000 signatures of others who say Close the SOA!
You can collect those names by asking 10 people to get 100 names each
or 20 people to get 50 names each.
