   MEXICO, Sept 9 (AFP) - President Ernesto Zedillo fired the chief
of his Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI) Tuesday, two months
after the party suffered a historic defeat in mid-term elections.
   The move to renew the party leadership by sacking Humberto Roque
Villanueva had been largely expected after the PRI lost in a July 6
vote its absolute majority in the Chamber of Deputies, which it had
controlled for 68 years.
   Villanueva's successor has not yet been named.
   Villanueva, 53, was named to head a state-owned insurance
company, a minor position for the PRI chief.
