He said the professor from North Belfast had the experience and qualities necessary for the job. He added that having someone from Northern Ireland as president could benefit peace. He said: "The fact that someone from the Six Counties would be in the highest office in the land and would be able to reflect, in a very open way, the sense of unionist and nationalist as well as the office would certainly help to consolidate and would be progressive and positive."
