IAIS: Duffy re-arrested id CAA07392; Fri, 10 Oct 1997 02:28:07 -0400 Via NY Transfer News Collective * All the News that Doesn't Fit from the Irish American Information Service email gkennedy@iais.org 10 October 1997 DUFFY RE-ARRESTED 10/09/97 13:48 EST A man who walked free from prison last week after murder charges against him were dropped, has been re-arrested in Lurgan town center again this afternoon relating to an alleged assault. After his release last week, Colin Duffy (30) said the case was "an indictment" of the Northern Ireland legal system. Duffy, a republican from Lurgan in County Armagh, had been accused of the IRA murders of two RUC (Royal Ulster Constabulary) men in the town in June. The charges were dropped last week - the second time he has been wrongly accused of murder. Last September he was cleared at a second appeal of murdering retired UDR (Ulster Defense Regiment) soldier John Lyness, for which he had served three-and-a-half years in prison. Duffy said on his release: "It's an indictment of the system as a whole, from the RUC right through the courts. Until this system is changed, there isn't going to be any justice in this country." He said he had been arrested because: "I'm a republican - that's all that's needed."
