IAIS update: PAISLEY ALLEGES DEATH THREAT Via NY Transfer News Collective * All the News that Doesn't Fit News from the Irish American Information Service 1 October 1997 email: gkennedy@iais.org PAISLEY ALLEGES DEATH THREAT 10/01/97 10:26 EST Democratic Unionist leader, Ian Paisley said today that police warned him last night that he was under a death threat from loyalist paramilitaries. He would not say which group was behind the alleged threat but said it was linked to his opposition to the early release of paramilitary prisoners. An RUC spokesman said it was not RUC policy to comment on or discuss any individual's personal security. Paisley also claimed that a British army base in Kilkeel, Co Down, was being closed in "the start of demilitarisation". A British army spokesman confirmed that it proposed to close the base there but a final decision had not yet been taken.
