Ire-Peace: Full-Scale Talks Next Tues Via NY Transfer News Collective * All the News that Doesn't Fit News from the Irish American Information Service 30 September 1997 email: gkennedy@iais.org FULL SCALE TALKS NEXT TUESDAY 09/30/97 12:40 EST Sinn Fein, Ulster Unionists and the other parties at the Stormont talks on the future of Northern Ireland have agreed that full-scale negotiations will begin next Tuesday. The talks will address all three strands of the talks process. The agreement of the Business Committee came more quickly than expected. Representatives of all the parties were in the same room, but spoke through the chairman, Canadian General John de Chastelain. On Tuesday morning, talks will begin on Strand One, the internal government of Northern Ireland. In the afternoon, negotiations will start on North-South relations. Discussions on relations between the Irish and British governments will start in the evening. The British government already considers the talks process under way, but it said in a statement that next Tuesday they will be opened formally. There is speculation that both Taoiseach Bertie Ahern and British Prime Minister Tony Blair will attend the first session. ================================================================= NY Transfer News Collective * A Service of Blythe Systems Since 1985 - Information for the Rest of Us 339 Lafayette St., New York, NY 10012 http://www.blythe.org e-mail: nyt@blythe.org ================================================================= nytire-10.01.97-14:45:33-5551
