Police said a gang of about 30 youths smashed windows in two homes in the Old Park Road. A man in one house needed hospital treatment for a head wound and a man and woman and their teenaged daughter in a nearby house suffered minor injuries when missiles smashed through their windows. The crowd is understood to have come from a nearby nationalist area. In Markethill, County Armagh -- scene of the huge van bomb explosion last week -- a bomb hoax caused dozen families to be evacuated from their homes for several during the night. The alert was raised when a package was spotted near a car close to the scene of the Continuity Army Council bombing. Army bomb disposal experts carried out a controlled explosion before declaring the package an "elaborate hoax", said an RUC spokesman. Meanwhile a 17-year-old youth was arrested in Newry, County Down, following two air gun attacks in the border town. A woman was hit by a pellet as she walked through the town and a married couple and their three-year-old daughter escaped injury when a pellet smashed a window of their car. The RUC said a high-powered air rifle was recovered when the youth was arrested at a house in the area. ================================================================= NY Transfer News Collective * A Service of Blythe Systems Since 1985 - Information for the Rest of Us 339 Lafayette St., New York, NY 10012 http://www.blythe.org e-mail: nyt@blythe.org ================================================================= nytire-09.30.97-01:28:47-23656
