Quinlivan was making an application for release on bail at the Central Criminal Court. He is accused of imprisoning a Limerick man, Michael Lyons, last August, but the court was told that Lyons failed to turn up at the trial and had been paid =A31,000 not to give evidence. He was said to be living in fear of his life and had moved to England. A detective inspector claimed a number of people were terrified of giving evidence against Quinlivan due to the "sheer fear of the IRA for which Quinlivan is an essential cog". Quinlivan escaped from Brixton prison in London six years ago and was on the run until his arrest in Tipperary last year. A decision on the bail application will be made in four weeks time. __________________________________________________________ The Irish American Information Service is a non-profit organization provding up-to-the-minute objective coverage of news as it happens in Ireland and the North.
