from IAIS: ROBINSON EXPRESSES PESSIMISM Via NY Transfer News Collective * All the News that Doesn't Fit ROBINSON EXPRESSES PESSIMISM 10/24/97 12:20 EST Ulster unionists intent on sabotaging the Northern Ireland peace talks at Stormont will gather in Portadown, County Armagh tonight for the third in a series of protest rallies. The rally to be held in Portadown town hall, featuring Democratic Unionist Party deputy leader Peter Robinson and Robert McCartney of the United Kingdom Unionist Party, follows previous protest meetings organised by the parties at Belfast's Ulster Hall. Tonight's rally will be chaired by Captain Austin Ardill, a member of the Ulster Unionist Party which is currently attending the talks. Yesterday, Ardill spoke of his dissatisfaction with the current talks process and signalled his intention to call for "unionist unity". Meanwhile, Ulster Unionist MP Jeffrey Donaldson has said he believes it is improbable any agreement will be reached at the multi-party talks. Mr Donaldson said he had no doubt the party's annual conference, which is taking place this weekend, would endorse the leadership's position on the talks. Speaking on RTE Radio this afternoon, Mr Donaldson said he believed Sinn Fein would not get what they wanted at the talks and that the IRA would return to violence. __________________________________________________________ The Irish American Information Service is a non-profit orginization provding up-to-the-minute objective coverage of news as it happens in Ireland and the North.
