SCOTS GUARDSMEN REFUSED RELEASE

Two British soldiers jailed for the murder of a Belfast man
will spend at least another year in prison despite a high
profile campaign for their release. Britain's Northern
Ireland Secretary Mo Mowlam said last night that the case of
Scots Guardsmen Mark Wright and James Fisher will be
referred to the Life Sentence Review Board in a year's time,
when they will have served six years.

The two soldiers murdered Peter McBride, an 18-year-old
nationalist from the New Lodge area of north Belfast, as he
ran away after they stopped him in the street in 1992. The
victim's family have vigorously fought attempts to have the
soldiers' life sentences reduced.
