Bougainville Restrictions Lifted Via NY Transfer News Collective * All the News that Doesn't Fit source:N.Braumann@tu-bs.de Fri Oct 24 12:01:48 1997 Bougainville restrictions lifted THE commander of the PNG Defence Force, Brigadier-General Leo Nuia, has announced that all restrictions imposed by the security forces on Bougainville have been lifted as of October 10, the date of the signing of the Burnham Truce. He said this had been done to honor and comply with the Burnham Truce and further enhance the peace process. People who wanted to travel in or to Bougainville no longer needed clearances from the security forces. People were free to move anywhere, at any time they wanted, and shipping companies and third-level airlines were free to operate throughout Bougainville. General Nuia urged all Bougainville traditional border crossers to report to Torato island for immigration and customs formalities before entering or leaving Solomon Islands territory.
