This supplements the report we posted yesterday. We hope you find them of interest. Angelo Falcon ipr-forum moderator -------------------------------------------------------- LATINO VOTE IN THE 1997 NYC MAYORAL ELECTION prepared by the Institute for Puerto Rican Policy (IPR) An initial analysis of the vote reported by Assembly District by the Associated Press reveals that the Latino vote for Mayor Giuliani was 37%, compared to 26% four year earlier. Table 1 NEW YORK CITY MAYORAL ELECTION November 4, 1997 Racial-Ethnic Breakdown of Vote -------------------------------------------- Giuliani Messinger Others -------------------------------------------- Latinos 37.1% 61.3% 1.5% Blacks 27.4 71.1 1.5 Whites 64.0 25.6 2.0 Total 55.2 42.9 1.9 -------------------------------------------- Mayor Giuliani did best among Latino voters in Brooklyn, where he received 44% of their vote. He did the worst among Latinos in the Bronx, getting only 31% of the Latino vote in that borough. The Bronx was the only borough that Giualini lost to Messginer. Blacks, however, had the lowest turnout rate with only 30% showing up at the polls.
