NICARAGUA
Financial ills halt Sandinista newspaper 

MANAGUA -- The Sandinista daily Barricada failed to appear Saturday after
months of financial troubles, but its editor in chief insisted the
shutdown was temporary.

During the 1980s, Barricada was the official voice of the country's
Marxist government. But it has recently run into serious troubles that the
editor, Tomas Borge, has blamed on ``economic sabotage'' by the current
conservative government.

Pedro Vindell Matus, a member of the news staff, said employees plan to
sue for more than $80,000 in unpaid wages and benefits.
