Africa -- A strike by 260 workers on a section of the R2-billion Maputo Corridor toll road continued over the weekend after they refused to accept an apology from the director of a construction company who called them "kaffirs". The man who made the remark is William Botha, a director of Stocks & Stocks, Basil Read and Bouygues construction consortium. James Phongolo, a shop steward for the Construction and Allied Workers' Union said Botha made the remark during a dispute last week on Wednesday over pay for workers who sacrificed their leave days to help the company to catch up on a work backlog. The workers immediately downed tools and were still on strike on Sunday.
