Rock n Roar for Tianenman Via NY Transfer News Collective * All the News that Doesn't Fit Fri, 28 May 1999 19:22:50 +0200 Research on Anarchism List Moderator's note: Although it is not the custom in this list to present information on coming events, I think we can make an exception for this one, which recalls so many international memories. -- Ronald Creagh Coming June 3rd, Thursday, the Activist is reassembling musicians in support of the democracy movement in China to hold the 10th Anniversary concert for Tienanmen. The groups who'll be joining the manifestation include The Ankouinssi Combo, Bill's Store, Blackbird, Mid-night Flight, Noise Cooperative, Pete Suart, Red Orchid Valley, Four Witches, and UNUS. Most of the appearing artists have played at last year's show. Musically a mixed bunch, the participating musicians guarantee a diversity of styles and a plurality of views, musical as well as political. While some performers would see the performance as a demand for the rectification of the massacre, others would see music as a pray to a positive karma to emerge. The Activist, having been active since the handover year, is committed to fully exercise the 'freedom of expression' in the SAR through cultural actions. The non-organizational coup vows to keep the yearly event a persistent effort up to the day the CCP bows to the people's call. Ten years on since the democracy movement in 89, China has crippled herself to become a slave of international economy. The greed for development in terms of trade and finance has reigned over all other social and human values. The CCP has camouflaged to become a most capitalistic mammoth of a nation. All positive development towards an open and humanistic society is sabotaged. The concert is meant for a cry for social commitment in a time of desertation. Albeit minimal resources, the Activist promised to put up a grassroots 'street performance' with spirited vitality and conviction. The free music gathering kicks off from 8pm below the Clock Tower at the waterfront of the Tsim Sha Tsui Pier, and lasts for three hours of non-stop rant and rave. Please come and bring your support to this amplification of a conscientious voice. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Moderator/Moderador/Moderateur : Ronald Creagh e-mail : rcreagh@alor.univ-montp3.fr Co-Moderator : John P.
