Mexico Refuses to Send Troops to Balkans

MEXICO CITY (May 26) XINHUA - The Mexican government Wednesday refused to
send troops to the Balkans in a peace operation supported by the United
Nations (UN). 

"Mexico has never, and will never, have troop participation in any
peacekeeping operation of the UN," said a statement issued by the Mexican
Foreign Ministry. 

The statement also said that the Mexican government has expressed "on
various occasions" that its foreign policy is attached "strictly to the
constitutional principles of peaceful solutions to disputes and those of
non-intervention." 

The Yugoslav ambassador in Mexico, Dusan Vasic, was summoned to the
Foreign Ministry on Wednesday to hear Mexico's "strict attachment to the
constitutional principles."
