	Murder Attempt against FIOB representative!

	The first local deputy of the Binational Oaxacan Indigenous Front 
(FIOB), who won the first election for the country's twenty-first 
district during the election held in August 1998, under the coalition 
of the FIOB - PRD in the state of Oaxaca. Our collegue, local deputy 
Juan Romualdo Gutierrez Cotrtez, also president of the grand comission 
for immigrants and the coordinator of the parlamentry faction of the 
PRD in the local state chambers, suffered a murder attempt on the 22nd 
of April of this year. This happened when he was headed home in his 
car. Mr. Cortez was driving along when suddenly a bullet hit the 
windshields of his car. This happened at 3:30 in the afternoon, local 
time. Fortuneatly nothing happened to him, nonetheless we condone in 
the most serious manner the series of agressions and provocations 
against our organization.
	"I do not have enemies, I am sure that this is a political 
matter," the deputy indignantly confirmed. This occurance has been 
denounced and reported to the local authorities and is under the 
investigation case 7729PJ/99 with the charge of murder intent at a 
private address. We demand that matter not be left alon and that a 
worthy and credible investigation be done with the full weight of the 
law against the material & intellectual authors of negative accident. 
We also demand protection for the life of our collegue. We urge the 
government to intervene and that they inform us in writting.
	For all of this we ask for the international support and 
solidarity from all of you to send protest letters to the state and 
federal government , with a copy to the FIOB.
