NOTICE: Termination of US/NATO War on Yugoslavia Distribution List Via NY Transfer News Collective * All the News that Doesn't Fit source - "colin s. cavell" Dear Friends and US/NATO War on Yugoslavia list recipients, THIS WILL BE THE LAST POSTING OF THE US/NATO WAR ON YUGOSLAVIA DISTRIBUTION LIST. As you all know, this phase of the ongoing war against Yugoslavia is now over. US plans to break up the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia date back to the early 1980s, if not before. National Security Decision Directive 133 from the mid-1980s is the cornerstone of this US policy to destroy the socialist economy of Yugoslavia, and has succeeded due to the collapse of the Soviet Union, which was formalized on December 25, 1991. In that same year, the West (Germany and the US working in tandem) successfully detached Slovenia, Croatia, and Macedonia from the Yugoslavian federation. In 1992 Bosnia-Herzegovina was detached which set off a three-year civil war which was terminated by the 1995 Dayton Accords. And now in 1999, the US-led NATO forces have succeeded in the de facto detachment of Kosovo-Metohija. Unable to fight the 19 nations of NATO alone and with its historical ally Russia helpless and under the suzerainty of the US, Yugoslavian President Milosevic has bought time by agreeing to the current agreement which puts Kosovo-Metohija nominally under UN control while maintaining nominal Yugoslavian sovereignty over the province. Nonetheless, the US juggernaut continues unabated, though its outright hegemonism and lawlessness, i.e. the iron fist behind the velvet glove, is now seen in bold relief by many around the world, as well as in the US itself. The current stationing of US/NATO troops in Kosovo-Metohija is but a temporary holding pattern, allowing the US time to complete a mopping up operation, before the next phase of hostilities begins, either in Montenegro or Voivodina, though ultimately Serbia itself is scheduled for assimilation into the US sphere of "capitalist democracies." This weekend, June 18-20, the G8 summit will be held in Cologne, Germany. Here, the governments representing the world's capitalist ruling classes will assess their situation following the current phase of the Yugoslavian war, and formalize their near-term agenda. One can be sure that the forces of capitalist hegemony, otherwise known as globalization, will push for additional market (i.e. territorial) acquisitions. Their most important work, however, will be the necessity to address "the Russian problem," viz. who will succeed their man Yeltsin, and how they will attempt to prevent the Russian Communists from coming back to power. The brutality and lawlessness of the US/NATO "Operation Allied Forces" has demonstrated even to the most benign observer the clear aggressive aims of US imperialism, particularly US disdain and scorn for Russia. Maintaining Russia as a vassal state will be at the top of the G8 agenda, and while sideshow conflicts will emerge in the next six to twelve months, the Russian political situation will be front and center in G8 machinations and intrigue, though absent from their public proclamations.
