IRSP Call for Vigilance Following Nail Bombs Via NY Transfer News Collective * All the News that Doesn't Fit source- irsp@netwizards.net Thu May 6 08:54:19 1999 IRSP Call for Vigilance Following Nail Bombs The head of the IRSP in Britain has called on members of the Irish community in England to be more vigilant following the recent nail bomb attacks in Brixton and Brick Lane. In a statement issued in London party spokesman Mr Terry O hEarcain said, " We are calling on Irish publicans, shopkeepers and our community at large to increase security precautions and keep a clear head in the coming days and weeks." "There are those in the Irish community who would have us believe that this bombing campaign is aimed solely at the Black and Asian community's. These people have obviously never read any of the writings of C18 or their fellow travellers. These groups are founded on a common ideology that Black's and Irish people are subhuman and drug dealers or terrorists." "This is an ideology they share with Loyalist gun gangs in Northern Ireland and there is a wealth recorded links between C18 and the multitude of loyalist groups that make up the UDA. It is not then a leap in the dark to work out where they are getting their new found expertise and the logistics to carry on this campaign." "The reality of the situation is this. We, as a community living in England, are viewed by these people as no different than any other minority ethnic group. It then follows that we are targets. It is simply not good enough to say that we are a silent and therefore immune minority. We are not." "C18 has made numerous threats against the Irish and have sent thugs to intimidate and attack Irish meetings and marches, and, how many young Irish people have been attacked and beaten because of their nationality? We need to be vigilant, we need to be aware of the dangers and we need to offer support to our fellow ethnic groupings in England." Mr O hEarcain concluded by repeating his party's call for details of the type and content of the Brixton and Brick Lane bombs to be made public along with any similarities between those devices and the bombs being used to attack Catholic homes in the North of Ireland.
