But that meeting was abruptly cancelled, when it became clear that Russia had difficulties with aspects of the plan. The hope now is that agreement can be reached at the Group of Eight meeting in Bonn. It is estimated that the three million visitors to the city last year spent half a billion pounds in the local economy. The problem is that many of these tourists are here on short breaks, and do not venture outside the Dublin area. However, this morning her career lies in shreds, she and her husband Eric de Bruin will disappear from high-level sport, each having been disgraced. Mrs O'Neill was a Protestant, but her marriage to a Catholic made her a target. With tension rising in the run up to Drumcree Sunday, such attacks have been increasing. She had been shot through the head while chatting in the street to her friend. Two young university lecturers were charged with her murder, but there were no witnesses to the killing, no weapon was found and there was no motive Frances Kennedy of the London Independent newspaper explains the details of a bizarre murder and the sequel in court. http://www.rte.ie/news/1999/0608/morningireland/morningireland5A.ram EU EXPERTS HOLD EMERGENCY MEETING TO ASSESS BELGIAN FOOD MEASURES --------------------------------------------------------------- European Union veterinary experts began an emergency meeting yesterday to assess the measures taken by Belgium to deal with crisis over a cancer causing dioxin in food products. EU officials said that the experts could recommend tougher curbs to contain the crisis. Belgium added butter to the country's long list of foods possibly contaminated by animal feed laced with the cancer-causing chemical.
