Letter From PKK Prisoner Eva Juhnke Via NY Transfer News Collective * All the News that Doesn't Fit Apr 22, 1999 Letter From PKK Prisoner Eva Juhnke I wish to protest in the strongest against the dirty conspiracy which was launched by U.S. imperialism, Zionist Israel, Turkish fascism, and other reactionary elements against our symbol of freedom and victory - our chairman Abdullah Ocalan. This conspiracy is not only aimed at a leading personality. It is directed against the Kurdish people's desire for freedom, and against all oppressed peoples. When our leader travelled to Europe on November 12, 1998 and announced his peace plans, his gesture of peace was rejected by all European states and the conspiracy began. Europe, which likes to identify itself with the notions of freedom, democracy, and human rights, showed its true face by doing this. Germany in particular, now more than ever before, chose to ignore the cries for help from the Kurdish people. Instead it chose to continue its policies of hatred against the Kurdish people. I, personally, am ashamed to have to be a citizen of that country, which pursues such inhumane policies. For years, a dirty war has been waged in the Kurdish lands against the Kurdish people, a war whose ultimate aim is systematic destruction. This region has been the focal point of barbaric and fascistic policies, a policy of the denial of an entire people, for decades now. How can people just ignore what is going on there, I ask myself? Thousands of villages razed to the earth, thousands of murders by "unknown assailants" (death squads backed by the Turkish state). Thousands of people tortured and maimed, many left to die in the torture chambers of the Turkish state. The nature and beauty of a region once rich and fertile have been destroyed. How can people ignore this crime? How can people shut their ears to the desperate cries of humans and nature? Now one man, labelled as a "baby killer", started on a path to say "stop", to halt all of this inhumane, fascistic destruction, to give a country drowning in blood a clean face once again. He is a freedom fighter, a monument for humanity, the hope of the oppressed. To attack him is to attack humanity. It is an attack on the hopes for victory and freedom of the Kurdish people and all oppressed peoples. I would like to stress one thing: No power can hope to defeat the will of the people for a free world. In the end, they will not be able to maintain their exploitative system and imperialist order in the face of the rage of the people. So I condemn the conspiracy undertaken by the USA, Israel, and Turkey, and all other reactionary, fascist elements, against humanity's "sun of victory", our leader Abdullah Ocalan. At the same time I call on youths in Germany and all forces who claim to be democratic and defenders of human rights, and all those who wish to defend humanity, to show solidarity with the just struggle of the Kurdish people. All fascist-imperialist attacks on humanity must be stopped, and the peace efforts of our leader must be taken seriously so that a democratic and humane path can be started upon. In this sense, I reaffirm my close ties to all my comrades and, in the name of the Kurdish people, my allegiance to our chairman, and in remembrance of all our martyrs, I reaffirm that nothing will keep us separated from our leader and our freedom. I greet with all my heart the Kurdish people's Intifada and the resistance which continues to grow with each new day. At the time of this writing, I am on the 20th day of a death fast together with other imprisoned comrades.
