Bougainville - Radio OZ - 20 Apr 99 Via NY Transfer News Collective * All the News that Doesn't Fit Radio Australia - World News - 20 April 99 PNG PM says Bougainville negotiations should be held in PNG Papua New Guinea Prime Minister Bill Skate says future negotiations between Bougainville leaders should be held in PNG, rather than overseas. Mr Skate was speaking on the way to a Bougainville leaders' meeting in the New Zealand city of Rotorua. The New Zealand Government has facilitated the meeting, hoping to encourage a breakthrough in stalled negotiations on Bougainville's political future. Mr Skate says New Zealand has played an important role brokering the Bougainville peace agreement, but future meetings must be held inside Papua New Guinea. The Prime Minister says the peace process must be able to progress at home if it is to succeed. Leaders of various Bougainville factions have been in New Zealand holding talks and studying Maori economic development, in an initiative designed to breathe new life into the peace process.
