Bougainville - Radio Oz - 21 April 99 Via NY Transfer News Collective * All the News that Doesn't Fit Radio Australia - 21 April 99 PNG Prime Minister to meet Bougainville leaders in New Zealand Papua New Guinea's Prime Minster Bill Skate is holding talks with Bougainville leaders today, in an effort to consolidate the Bougainville peace process. The meeting, in New Zealand, comes on the eve of the first anniversary of the ceasefire agreement on Bougainville. Libby Hakaria has more. PNG Prime Minister Bill Skate says he decided to make the brief visit to New Zealand to show solidarity with the group of Bougainvillean leaders who are on the last day of a week long study visit. The four Bougainville members of the national parliament, and a broad cross-section of the Bougainville factions including the Bougainville Revolutionary Army and the Lotana council of elders, have been studying the constitutional framework for the future government of their country. Both the PNG Prime Minister and the Bougainville factions say they are determined that this will be the last peace meeting held in New Zealand, and that continued dialogue on a lasting peace can be conducted on Bougainville.
