18-yr OLD'S DEATH in TDCJ SPARKS PROTEST AT STATE JAIL DOWNTOWN

On Thursday, June 10, 1999 from 3:00pm to 5:00pm at Kegans State Jail, 707
Top Baker, community activists, family and friends of 18yr old
African-American Reginald Lavergne will hold a public protest to demand that
the family be given official written autopsy results and written
notification of an investigation into his suspicious death. Reginald was an
inmate at the Tennessee Colony prison facility near Palestine, Texas when he
died on April 17, 1999. Eight weeks have past since the family was notified
by the Houston Police Department that Reginald was dead on April 18, 1999.
On the last family visit in December of 1998 Reginald was strong, muscular
and in good health. Pictures of his corpse released last week by the family
show severe weight loss and bruises, holes in his feet and back looked to be
made by nails.

Families with similar cases, community organizations, activists, churches
and elected officials are encouraged to attend this protest. We can no
longer sit back and watch as global white supremacy is manifested in prison
systems across America.

We must challenge the prison industrial complex which warehouses African
Americans and Latinos at an alarming rate.
