The detainees are not criminals. They should not be imprisoned. Those of them who stand up for their rights by protesting, going on hunger strike, or signing a petition should not be victimised. This is inhumane and against the spirit of international law. Last night one of the Hunger strikers an Algerian detainee attempted to take his own life. Fortunately he was discovered and is now recovering. Management at campsfield threatened to move this person to Rochester prison but a protest by the hunger strikers forced management to back down. Below please find a copy of the message sent from the hunger strikers. Statement of the Campsfield Hunger Strikers - 8th June 1999 We've come to the UK seeking shelter from injustice, hoping to get back our right to live full lives, just like you do - the right that has been taken away from us back in our home countries. Maybe some of us have overstayed, or entered Britain illegally. But we didn't do this for ill purposes. We are not criminals, we are the victims. English people have acquired incredible fortune due to their pious nature. Why not share some of it with us? Give us a chance to prove ourselves. We don't need much. Some of us have families here, they need our support and love. Why lock us up like animals separate from our wives and children - we did not commit any crimes. Please release us and all other people in detention now More up to date information may be obtained from NCADC Zrinka Bralo on 0181 520 9099 or Campaign to Close Campsfield Tel / Fax 01865 558145 / 726804 / 557282 E-mail your support: Campsfield Hunger Strikers CHS@ncadc.demon.co.uk ******** The A-Infos News Service ******** COMMANDS: majordomo@tao.ca REPLIES: a-infos-d@tao.ca HELP: a-infos-org@tao.ca WWW: http://www.ainfos.ca/ INFO: http://www.ainfos.ca/org ================================================================= NY Transfer News Collective * A Service of Blythe Systems Since 1985 - Information for the Rest of Us 339 Lafayette St., New York, NY 10012 http://www.blythe.org e-mail: nyt@blythe.org ================================================================= nytrc-06.11.99-01:44:36-14685
