Welfare Law Center's Organization Directory Via NY Transfer News Collective * All the News that Doesn't Fit The Welfare Law Center is pleased to announce the online availability of the "Fourth Edition of the Directory of Low Income Organizations Working on Welfare Issues" on the LINC Project WebSite at: http://www.lincproject.org The Directory is in an interactive map format. The goal of the Directory is to promote communication among organizations of low income people and their allies across the country so that they can share information about the creative advocacy, education, and organizing that is underway in communities across the country. Now that states and localities have implemented welfare reform, these grassroots groups work to educate their members and their community about these programs, and to advocate for: adequate and fair social safety net programs; improvements in program administration to assure that assistance is provided to those eligible; worker protections for those participating in welfare workfare programs; jobs at living wages for those who need them; and related programs to enable parents to obtain and maintain employment, such as education and training, health care coverage, and affordable and quality child care. This Directory is the product of the Welfare Law Center's intensive efforts to gather key information about groups of low income individuals who are working for a fair and humane income support system in this country. This Edition includes listings for 189 groups in 44 states and as well as for 6 groups in Canada (this includes multiple offices for some groups). Many of the groups are made up exclusively of low income people; others have memberships that include both low income people and others. The Directory is an activity of the Center's Low Income Networking and Communications (LINC) Project.
