Less than two months ago, Francisco Garcia Valle, a well-known educator in Bluefields, Nicaragua, was brutally murdered in his own home while his wife, Dr. Maria Luisa Acosta was meeting with a delegation from an IFCO/Pastors for Peace material aid caravan. Dr. Acosta, an internationally renowned human rights lawyer and Coordinator of the Center for Legal Assistance for Indigenous Peoples (CALPI,) believes the assassination was intended for her because of her work on behalf of the people of the Nicaragua's Caribbean Coast who are threatened by land grabbers. Their land is threatened by the advance of corporate globalization in the form of a "dry canal" or high-speed rail across the country and by capitalist tourism which trying to take over indigenous land protected by the Nicaraguan Constitution and Autonomy Statute of 1987 which were fruits of the Sandinista Revolution. Right now, your solidarity is needed more than ever! On this urgent fact-finding mission, delegates will: **Meet with Dr. Acosta to give support during her time of mourning and to learn more about the legal context of the indigenous communities' struggle for human and land rights; **Travel by plane and boat to the Atlantic coast indigenous communities throughout the Pearl Lagoon Basin which are engaged in a gallant struggle to defend the fraudulent procurement and sale of their land by Peter Tsokos, a US citizen; **Talk to community leaders whose land is being threatened by the dry canal project; **Meet with leaders of Nicaraguan non-governmental organizations and autonomous universities.
