Thursday, June 13, 7:30pm Green Street Friends Meeting, 45 Schoolhouse Lane, Philadelphia CUBAN DIPLOMAT TO SPEAK IN PHILADELPHIA THURSDAY, JUNE 13th Oscar Redondo, First Secretary of the Cuban Interests Section in Washington D.C., will be the featured speaker at a public meeting 7:30pm Thursday June 13th at Green Street Friends Meeting, 45 West Schoolhouse Lane, Philadelphia. The event --entitled 'What's Up with Cuba?'-- presents an opportunity to review and discuss Washington's escalation of hostility to Cuba, as well as the recent visit to the island by former president Carter. Stepped-up U.S. operations against Cuba in the past two months have included provocations staged in Monterrey and at the Mexican embassy in Havana, the attempted overthrow of Venezuela's government, an orchestrated censure by the UN Human Rights Commission, false charges of a Cuban bio-weapons program, and the May 20th speech by Bush aggressively reaffirming U.S. intransigence. Redondo was Prensa Latina's Mexican correspondent for five years before joining Cuba's UN delegation. He was appointed First Secretary of the Cuban Interests Section in April 2000. The June 13th event will also hear a U.S. perspective from Steve Eckardt of the Philadelphia Cuba Support Coalition, as well as updates from Pamela Martin of the Philadelphia/Cardenas Sister Cities Project and Stephen Paulmier of the Free the Five Committee. The meeting is free and open to the public. A discussion period will follow the presentations. Green Street Friends Meeting is located at 45 West Schoolhouse Lane in Philadelphia, between Greene Street and Germantown Avenue.
