"The VWVA has followed with keen interest and are concerned about the serious and prolonged tension in the Middle East," the statement said. It noted: "We are extremely angry that the Israeli administration has sent its troops to invade areas controlled by the Palestinian people, escalating the war, killing innocent people, and even besieging and threatening the life of President Yasser Arafat - the legitimate leader of the Palestinian people - in Ramallah." The statement went on to say that Israel had violated the fundamental principle of international laws on human rights and national sovereignty, Resolutions of the United Nations Security Council and the Land for Peace Agreement reached between Israel and Palestine. "We strongly condemn these actions, demand Israel put an immediate end to its military acts, withdraw its troops from all occupied areas, and conduct peaceful negotiations to settle the Palestinian issue," it said. "The VWVA together with the rest of the Vietnamese people voice our profound sympathy and consistent support for the Palestinian people in their just struggle under the leadership of President Yasser Arafat." The statement concluded by calling on international war veterans to voice their strong support for the struggle of the Palestinian people.--VNA ================================================================= NY Transfer News Collective * A Service of Blythe Systems Since 1985 - Information for the Rest of Us 339 Lafayette St., New York, NY 10012 http://www.blythe.org e-mail: nyt@blythe.org ================================================================= nytas-04.22.02-18:47:15-18298
